Q. Can anyone go kayaking or paddle boarding?
A: Anyone can go kayaking or paddle boarding. Children under 18 are welcome to join their parents or guardians in a tandem kayak. Flat-water kayaking is accessible to all ages, sizes and fitness levels.
Q. What if I’ve never gone kayaking before?
A. Flat-water Kayaking is perfect for beginners as well as advanced paddlers and easy to learn. For those of you with no experience whatsoever, we offer a three-hour Intro to Kayaking Course. We also offer a self-recovery course for those interested in improving their skills.
Q. Do I need a reservation?
A. No. Walk-up rentals are ongoing, but we advise you to reserve, especially if you have a big group. Creekside Kayaks is closed from October 2nd to April 14th. If you wish to kayak or paddle board at this time a yearly pass will be required.
Q. Is kayaking physically strenuous?
Kayaking is like riding a bike; you can get in a great workout or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
Q. What should I wear?
Whatever you’re comfortable in. While you should not expect to get excessively wet, your paddle will drip a bit as you move along the water. Layers are usually best – be prepared for direct sunlight or a cool breeze. All kayakers or boarders must wear a personal floatation device at all times, so try not to wear a sweater or jacket that is excessively bulky. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle and some sunscreen, especially on sunny days.
Q. How long can I paddle?
A. Minimum rental is one hour. Kayaks or paddle boards can be rented for additional 1/2 hours or for the full day – stay out as long as you like!
Q. I have purchased a Groupon; is it still valid after the expiration date?
A. All unredeemed 2016 kayak Groupons will be honored for face value (the amount you paid) during the 2017 kayaking season. British Columbia law states that expired certificates continue to have value but only for the actual money paid.
Q. What are the rental rates?
Paddle Boards are available for $20 plus GST an hour
Single kayaks are available for $20 plus GST an hour
Tandem kayaks are available for $35 plus GST an hour
Q. What is a Seasons or Annual Pass?
A. An annual pass gives the pass holder unlimited access to kayaks and paddle boards, within the False Creek area. Reservations are required from April 14th to October 19th, though not always necessary. Kayaks and paddle boards are available during the regular business hours (M-F, 11:00 am to sunset, weekends and from 9 am to 5 pm – outside those hours reservations are not required). Creekside Kayaks closes for the winter from October 2nd to April 14th but Pass Holders still have access to kayaks.
The annual membership fee for Creekside Kayaks pass holders is $249 plus GST. This entitles the pass holder to kayak access all year round. We also offer a couples pass for $349 and a family pass for 2 Adults and 2 children for $459. Additional children are $50 each.
